“I first knew I wanted to become an apprentice when I saw the apprentices last year helping others to learn how to ski or snowboard. I wanted to do what they were doing and encourage people to learn how to ski or snowboard and just help out at Snow-Camp. Graduate Programme was my favourite programme because that’s where I started to make new friends from different areas of London who I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for the charity.”
During the Apprenticeship Programme Shayleigh completed a work placement with the Ski Club of Great Britain, achieved an NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership and BASI Level 1 Instructor qualification, she started a social enterprise to raise money for the Snow-Camp Youth Forum and she worked with Snow-Camp’s new cohort of students. She was also lucky enough to attend a skiing trip to Liechtenstein. Since leaving the Apprenticeship Programme Shayleigh has secured a job as a Ski Technician at Ellis Brigham in Stratford, London, she often represents Snow-Camp at events, she volunteers on our programmes and she is still an active member of the Snow-Camp Youth Forum.
“I enjoy it so much! Snow-Camp is a unique opportunity to become a ski instructor and I really want to progress further. This is something I never would have thought possible for someone from Charlton. Its mind blowing here at Snow-Camp! My improved confidence from skiing has benefited me in so many ways.”
Shayleigh is an inspiration to all of the young people on our programmes, showing them that with a little hard work they too can achieve great things.
