Over 250 guests enjoyed the amazing view’s over the London skyline on a perfect summer evening, alongside stars of the snowsports world Graham Bell, Chemmy Alcott, Dougie Crawford, Cara Brown and Britain’s Fastest Snowboarder Jamie Barrow.
Guests were treated to some incredibly moving stories from some of Snow-Camp’s beneficiaries, including young people from this & last year’s award-winning apprenticeship programme. The apprentices spoke passionately and openly about the challenges they had faced in the past and the impact Snow-Camp had made to their lives and futures.
The charity, which has been supporting inner-city young people since 2003, launched its 5NOW expansion campaign a year ago at this same event. The campaign aims to raise funds to help expand Snow-Camp’s accredited journey of programmes across 5 UK regions – London, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and Scotland – taking young people from beginner skier or snowboarder right through to qualified snowsports instructors. In his welcome address, Graham Bell celebrated the progress of the campaign since its launch and spoke of the continuing importance of Snow-Camp’s work.
Snow-Camp Founder and Director Dan Charlish said, ‘Tonight has been a particularly special night for Snow-Camp. Not only are we celebrating the success of the first year of the campaign with our patrons, supporters and friends, but we have also had the chance to hear directly from our young apprentices – and to have them speak so openly about the impact our programmes have had on their lives was moving for all of us. It inspires us to keep going and reconfirms for everyone the need for the work we are doing, and the expansion plans ahead.’
Another first for the event was a personally signed Nelson Mandela Lithograph generously donated by Belgravia Gallery, which was the highlight of the auction on the night. Sponsors from the UK snowsports industry and were once again hugely supportive of the evening, with 18 unique items offered this year which collectively raised over £18,000 – with all monies raised going directly towards Snow-Camp’s work with young people.
The charity wishes to thank Norton Rose Fulbright, all supporting sponsors and our guests who all played their part in making the 2016 City Drinks a real highlight of the year for Snow-Camp once again.
