February 19th will go down as a pivotal moment in Snow-Camp’s history as the day that the BBC showcased our work with young people and enabled us to reach millions of potential new supporters, both in the UK and internationally too.
The feature on Ski Sunday captured perfectly the potential of snowsports to change lives and the positive impact that of Snow-Camp’s work with young people: taking them from negative inner-city environments and a lack of opportunities to qualifications, new life-skills, employment, apprenticeships and training – with snowsports at the heart of everything we do! In case you missed the episode, watch our feature in full below:
Jonjoe’s story is inspirational: When we first met Jonjoe, aged 16, he wasn’t interested in school and he wasn’t looking for employment. He spent too much time on his council estate and didn’t really have any hobbies. However with a little help from Snow-Camp and a lot of hard work from Jonjoe, he has gone on to achieve to the extraordinary. Through Snow-Camp Jonjoe gained a Snowsport England Level 1 Instructor qualification, NVQs in Activity Leadership, ASDAN youth qualification in Sport and Fitness, a Snowlife England award and valuable work experience across the snowsports industry. Jonjoe also gained his BASI Level 1 and 2 Ski Instructor qualification whilst on our Apprenticeship Programme, which he completed with support from Snow-Camp Patron, Warren Smith. Jonjoe is now working towards his ISIA Level 3 Instructor qualification at the Warren Smith Ski Academy. Read more about Jonjoe here.
Jonjoe often volunteers on our programmes showing the new Snow-Camp young people what they can achieve with hard work and determination. This is just the beginning for Jonjoe and we look forward to continuing on this wonderful journey with him.
If you work with young people and would like your young people to get involved with Snow-Camp, find out where we work here.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of many trusts, foundations, corporations, individuals and industry partners. If you would like to support our work, we would love to hear from you.
Last but not least, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Ski Sunday and to our Patron, Jenny Jones.
