Snow-Camp young people to volunteer at Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships 2017

Snow-Camp young people have been offered a once in a life-time opportunity: to volunteer at the 2017 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships.

Four of our apprentices, Hamza Alkebida, Aimee Hudgell, Lewis Young and Laquan Bacchus will be heading out to the French resort of Tignes next week and will be volunteering across the event as part of the on snow organising team. Run by British Ski and Snowboard, the Delancey British National Alpine Championships will provide Snow-Camp’s beneficiaries with valuable, life-changing industry experience.

Aimee said: “The area I’m from is boring with a lot of crime, it can be really negative and not a nice place to live really. To be offered something more positive is amazing and to be given an opportunity to do something I would never have done myself, I can’t believe that I get to volunteer at the British National Alpine Championships! Currently, through the Snow-Camp Apprenticeship Programme, I’m on a work placement at Ski World and I hope I’ll always be able to work in the snowsports industry and work at events just like the British Championships! Thank you Snow-Camp, Delancey and British Ski and Snowboard for this opportunity!

Snow-Camp have been Delancey’s official charity partner since 2012, and for the second year running the snowsports charity will support the Delancey British National Alpine Championships.

Snow-Camp’s Founder and Director, Dan Charlish, said: “The Delancey British Alpine Ski Championships is the biggest event on the British ski racing calendar and we’re incredibly pleased to be involved again. As a snowsports youth charity, we’re passionate about using snowsports as a tool to engage inner-city young people to provide them with life-skills, qualifications and vocational opportunities. Four of our young people will be volunteering at this year’s event and it will be a life-changing experience for them. Going from inner-city London to the mountain environment will broaden their horizons and provide them with fantastic work experience. We’re so grateful to everyone at Delancey and British Ski and Snowboard for believing in our work and supporting us.

This year’s Championships, which will take place on 25th March to 7th April in Tignes, is set to be the biggest event on the British Alpine Ski Racing calendar. Expect to see the best British ski racers battling it out for the Senior and Junior British Championship honours alongside their world-class international counterparts. The Championships will feature the top names of British skiing including Dave Ryding, Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest, plus rising Alpine stars including Ian Innes and Yasmin Cooper.
