March – June
We will continue to deliver our virtual Headstart sessions to all youth clubs who would benefit. Headstart sessions enable young people to find out about Snow-Camp’s snowsports programmes and take part in mental health workshops with our Mental Health Manager and counsellor Kevin Hempstead. If you are part of a youth club and would like to book a free Headstart session, please do get in touch.
We are also continuing to offer free virtual 1-1 counselling sessions and 24/7 text support to all young people through our Stop.Breathe.Think programme. Over 500 young people have engaged with the initiative to date. Currently, we have 128 young people receiving counselling support and 491 counselling sessions have been delivered since November. Working in partnership with JHD Counselling Services, we want to support as many young people as we can in these challenging times. Please do share information about the Stop.Breathe.Think service far and wide.
We have also just launched a new webinar series for Snow-Camp young people called ‘Be Empowered’ which is running weekly throughout March and into April. Over 6 weeks young people will take part in different mental health workshops focusing on a range of topics including on coping strategies, the social media trap and finding your identity. ‘Be Empowered’ will run alongside ongoing mental health qualifications and courses our young people are currently enrolled in.
Last year we had to cancel our charity ‘London Phoenix Orchestra presents A Night at the Movies’ event at Cadagon Hall. We are delighted that the event has now been rescheduled to June 30th. While we are still working with the Hall to determine how the event will run with whatever social distancing will be required at that point, we are so happy it is back in the calendar! We will share more details about the event soon, watch this space and please do pencil the date into your diaries.
July – September
We are hoping to run our snowsports programme First Tracks across the country during the school summer holidays. Here young people from London, Scotland, the North West, and the Midlands can experience skiing or snowboarding for the first time at indoor snow centres over 2-days. They can also take part in life-skills sessions and work towards a Snowsport Scotland or England Snow Life Award. If you are a youth worker or social worker and would like to register your interest, find out more or book a 2-day course for your young people, please contact the Programme Manager for your region. Their details can be found here.
We also plan to deliver the remainder of our instructor programme, Excel, so that the young people who started this programme in early 2020 will be able to finish it and gain their well-deserved Level 1 Instructor qualification. These young people will also be volunteering on our First Tracks Programmes, helping teach the new cohort of young people who will be joining the charity.
Our plan is to continue offering counselling support through Stop.Breathe.Think, through these months and we hope that sessions will be able to take place face-to-face, as well as virtually. We have access to a team of 40+ counsellors who are working with us now, spread across the UK, so as soon as we can do so, we expect to introduce this extra support.
Finally, our charity Golf Day will be back on 23rd September 2021! Hurrah! Last year we ran our first ever Golf Day at Bush Hill Park Golf Club and it was so much fun. We are delighted that the wonderful Golf Club team at Bush Hill have confirmed the event for this year too. Save the date and watch this space for more information.
Phew, as our roadmap highlights, there is a lot to plan and deliver, but we are so excited and happy at the prospect of being able to see our young people and supporters face-to-face soon. Thank you for your ongoing support and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a busy summer!
