Miles and Mountains: True North Travel’s 4 Years of Impact with Snow Camp

Empowering young people through snow. One trip at a time

At Snow Camp, we know the life-changing power of the mountains. We also know that we can’t open up the world of snowsports to the young people we support alone, which is why, for the past four years, we’ve proudly teamed up with True North Travel.

Together, over the past 4 years, Directors Chris and Simon and their dedicated team have supported Snow Camp to take more than 300 young people from the inner-city environments to the snow-covered slopes in Andorra – and behind every trip is a story of belief, generosity, and partnership.

Whether it’s through service discounts, fundraising challenges, or their commitment to donating £1 to Snow Camp for every traveler, True North Travel has shown up for Snow Camp in every way that matters since 2021.

The Andorra residential: more than just a trip

Each winter, our young people reach a pivotal moment in their Snow Camp journey – the chance to go on a week-long residential in Andorra. For many, it’s the first time leaving the UK. But for all, it’s an experience that reshapes what they believe is possible.

With True North Travel handling logistics and reduced costings for Snow Camp wherever possible, these trips are made more accessible to the young people who need them most.

The residential includes:

  • Daily ski or snowboard instruction
  • Evening wellbeing and reflection sessions
  • Travel independence and life-skills development
  • Strong peer support and professional mentoring

“True north creates life-shaping experiences. From adventure to reflection, every detail was thoughtfully planned. Thank you, True North, for helping us and our young people discover confidence, resilience, and their love for snow sports.” – Hannah, Snow Camp Youth Forum member.

“True North gave me an opportunity that, for some, it never crossed my mind, and because of it, they developed a passion for the snow sports and an interest in the industry for me” – Omar, Snow Camp Youth Forum member.

“True North allowed me to experience the mountains for the first time, for that I’m forever grateful. For a lot of people at Snow Camp, this is the first time they see the mountains or go abroad, it’s great that True North helps every step of the way.” – Alice, Snow Camp Youth Forum member.

These trips don’t just teach young people to ride – they show them who they can become.

Fundraising on two wheels: the True North Ride

True North cycling challenge fundraising for Snow Camp

In summer 2024, building on a similar challenge in 2023, the True North team and friends (Chris, Simon, Matt, and Joe) took their commitment to Snow Camp even further.

They cycled 560 miles through Brittany, with over 3,000m of climbing each day, all to raise money for Snow Camp and other charities close to their hearts. Joined by over 200 fellow cyclists, their ride wasn’t just about physical endurance – it was about impact. Together, the True North cyclists raised over £1000 for Snow Camp young people.

They knew what this effort meant: more young people given the chance to experience snow sports. More lives changed. More futures opened up.

Their incredible challenge raised awareness, inspired donors, and reminded us that the spirit of adventure doesn’t stop at the snowline.

And keep an eye out for them on the roads, because the True North team has confirmed they will be doing this challenge for Snow Camp again this September!

Giving back, one booking at a time

True North Travel has embedded giving into their business model. For every person who books a holiday with them, they donate £1 to Snow Camp. And every £100 raised funds a place for a new young person to start their journey on our First Tracks programme.

That means each True North customer is directly supporting our work, helping a young person take their first turn on snow.

It’s a powerful reminder that impact doesn’t always come from big events. Sometimes, it’s built step by step, one booking at a time.

We couldn’t say it better than the True North Directors, Chris Beaumont and Simon Richardson:

“We’ve been proudly supporting Snow Camp since day one. As a school tour operator, we introduce thousands of young people to snow sports each year, an experience that aligns beautifully with the life-changing opportunities Snow Camp offers.

Organising the annual residential is a highlight for us, and it’s a true privilege to witness so many of Snow Camp’s young people discovering the mountains for the very first time. We’re long-time fans and look forward to continuing our support for many more years.”

The numbers behind the partnership

Here’s what we’ve achieved together over the past four years:

  • 300 young people supported on residential trips
  • Over £8000 raised through donations and fundraising in the last 3 years!
  • 83 places funded on First Tracks, allowing young people to experience skiing for the first time
  • Plus an extra 10 young people supported through being match-funded by The Big Give in December 2024
  • A growing network of Snow Camp graduates progressing into further training, work experience, and even instructor qualifications

But these numbers are just the beginning. Behind each statistic is a young person whose life has been changed, a door opened, and a mindset shifted.

It’s stories like this that make partnerships with companies like True North so important:

“Before my Andorra trip with Snow Camp, I’d never left my city, let alone the country. Standing on top of that mountain made me realise there’s a bigger world out there for me.

It gave me the confidence to try new things, speak up, and believe in myself. Now I’m an apprentice with Snow Camp, helping other young people take their first steps on snow, just like I did. It’s honestly changed my life.” Snow Camp Young Person

Shared values, shared vision

What makes this partnership so special is that True North Travel get it. They understand that mountains are about more than snow. They’re about escape, self-discovery, and possibility – and they want to share that with young people who need it most.

That’s why they don’t just donate. They ride. They cheer. They show up. And they help build a future where snow sports are open to everyone.
