Be Inspired Sessions

Welcome to Be Inspired, Snow-Camp’s first webinar series! From inspirational stories to practical snowsports advice and information about how to start careers in the industry, our team have lined up a series of talks that you won’t want to miss, check them out below!

Our first Be Inspired talk was organised by our youth volunteers Ellie Hearne, Laquan Bacchus, Ebony Knight, Kym Scobie, Jack McNulty and Zulekha Dennis. Our volunteers have all completed our programmes in the past and are now employed in the snowsports industry. They’ve all worked in the mountains and many are now working at the indoor slopes here in the UK. Find out more about their experiences by watching the video below.

We were delighted to welcome Kevin Edwards and Tom Waddington from BASI (British Association of Snowsports Instructors) as our speakers for the second Be Inspired session. Kevin and Tom talk about how they got involved with snowsports and how they started careers in the industry. Kevin and Tom both hold some of the highest ski and snowboard instructor qualifications and have carved out inspiring careers. Watch the video below to find out more!

Snow-Camp ambassador and the UK’s fastest snowboarder Jamie Barrow joined us for week 3. In this week’s session Jamie talks about overcoming any challenges that life may throw at us. He discusses how he had to give up his dream of competing in the Olympics due to a serious back injury but how he hasn’t let that stop him from achieving great things. Thank you Jamie!

For week 4, Snow-Camp Patron Graham Bell led the session. Drawing on his vast experience in the snowsports industry, first as an Olympic skier and now as a TV presenter and commentator, Graham discusses overcoming fear and the coping strategies he used to help him get to the top. Graham also talks about his love of the ski community, his retirement from ski racing and how he transitioned into the world of presenting and commentating. Watch it below!

Snow-Camp Patron Warren Smith joined us for week 5. Warren discusses his journey and the challenges he had to overcome to become a leading professional free skier and owner of the prestigious Warren Smith Ski Academy in Verbier.

This week ski cross athlete and Snow-Camp ambassador Emily Sarsfield joined our Be Inspired session. Having experienced many challenges throughout her career including overcoming a serious injury and controversially missing out on the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, Emily remained determined to reach her goals. In 2018 Emily broke into the World’s Top 10 and competed at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. Listen to her story below!

Snow-Camp’s very own programmes team and our Director Dan Charlish spoke about their snowsports journeys for week 7 of our Be Inspired sessions.

GB Snowsport CEO Vicky Gosling gave an inspiring talk for week 8. In the video below, she discusses her experiences as a Group Captain in the Royal Air Force, which led her to being awarded an OBE in 2014. Vicky also discusses the crucial role she played in the success of the inaugural Invictus Games in 2014 and going on to become CEO of the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, USA. Check it out!
