First Tracks

Snow Camp programmes give young people the opportunity to progress from beginner skiers and snowboarders right through to becoming qualified instructors and their journey starts with First Tracks. A total of 1,108 young people took part in Snow Camp programmes last year, all referred by local youth groups and youth services.

Do you work with young people aged 13-21?

The Snow Camp First Tracks programme is a chance for your young people to learn to ski or snowboard this summer! Over a 2-day Beginner Course, young people will get on the slopes at an indoor centre, attend life skills sessions, and get support from our fully qualified youth instructors. Also included: free lunches on both days; mental health support; equipment hire and instruction; and a Snow Life Award.

If you are a youth worker, social worker, or part of a youth organisation or project, we’d love your young people to join us on the Snow Camp journey! We currently have spaces open for First Tracks 2026. This is the first stage in Snow Camp’s year-long programme journey, opening sa world of possibilities for your young people. See below for the dates of each region’s courses this summer.

Please get in touch with the Programme Manager in your area to discuss enrolling your young people in Snow Camp.

More about First Tracks

First Tracks provides young people (aged 13-21) with their first experience of snowsports at indoor snow centres in the UK throughout July and August every year. Over two days young people will learn how to ski or snowboard and will take part in life skills sessions focusing on independence, responsibility, confidence and self-esteem.

Young people are taught how to ski or snowboard by qualified instructors and Snow Camp youth apprentices and volunteers, who have completed the courses in previous years. They are the best role models to demonstrate to the new young people what they can achieve with Snow Camp.

Young people are also supported by our Wellbeing Managers who are on hand to lend a ear while providing additional advice and guidance along with delivering workshops during the course.

At the end of the two days the young people will have made significant progress on the slopes and will have experienced, for the first time, the feeling of sliding down a ski slope, giving them an increased sense of achievement and a pride in what they have accomplished.

An awards ceremony closes the course, with the young people receiving their accredited Snowsport England or Snowsport Scotland Snow Life Award along with medals and certificates, providing a lasting record of their achievement and experience with us. It is always rewarding to see the impact of First Tracks on the young people, as they always achieve far more than they thought possible and many are keen to progress on to our Graduate course, which runs throughout the Autumn.

If you work with young people and would like to enrol them on First Tracks, please get in touch with the Programme Manager in your area.

Snow Camp in action

Snow Camp First Tracks is just the start of the full Snow Camp journey. Watch this video to get a taste of what Snow Camp has to offer!

I’m a full-time carer for my mum and I struggle with anxiety. Attending Snow Camp gives me a much-needed break from my responsibilities at home while improving my fitness and reducing my anxiety. Day 2 of First Tracks was a massive day in my life. I wasn't sure I wanted to go back after the first day, but I did and it’s the best decision I’ve made! First Tracks made me realise the enjoyment that comes from achievement and by sticking with snowboarding and not giving up meant I could snowboard quite well by the end! Going from VERY nearly giving up to snowboarding from the top of the big slope was an AMAZING feeling!
