Snow Camp Apprentices kick off the start of the season with Chalet Hosting Experience with Summit Special

Author: Tilly Tasker

At the start of the skiing and snowboarding season in December 2022 Snow Camp apprentices were given the experience of a lifetime with Summit Special – A week in the mountains to get some hands-on experience with running the fully catered Chalet Gentiane in Les Gets!

The team were given the opportunity to try out things for themselves. They sampled a variety of different chores including cooking in the kitchen, serving tea and cake after a long day on the mountain, learning how to make the beds, and keep the rooms and chalet communal areas looking spotless.

But it wasn’t all work and no play… There were also a few days spent enjoying the fresh snow and honing their skiing and snowboarding skills in the mountain while they had the opportunity.

Lydia Honey, Midlands Programme Manager said:

“The Snow Camp apprentices loved staying at Chalet Gentiane and working alongside Karen and Dave and their team. They gained valuable insight into how a chalet is run and enjoyed learning about, and practising, all the different elements of chalet hosting. They also managed to squeeze in two days of skiing/snowboarding amongst all the hard work! A massive thank you to Summit Special for having us; an unforgettable experience.”

We want to say a special thank you to Summit Special for this incredible opportunity that not only gave valuable insight into different jobs available for those wanting to work overseas, but also helped young people Jonah and Elaina secure chalet hosting jobs with LeSki! Many thanks to all involved for making this fantastic opportunity a reality.
